Baker DDM is proud to be an extension of Georgia State University’s impressive dedication to financial literacy. Georgia State University is known around the country for a number of reasons aside from just Panthers football. Their J. Mack Robinson College of Business is nationally ranked and regularly produces financial minds ready to offer their services for the betterment of society.
At Baker DDM, our managing director, Chris Baker, is a proud graduate of Georgia State University. He obtained his BBA from the school in 2006, after previously acquiring an AS from Georgia Perimeter College.
Another notable example is Ralph Moor who graduated from the school back in 1937. He has spent his life studying commerce and bringing a better understanding of its implications to the masses. However, for the past 30 years, Moor has been dedicated to helping students of Georgia State University become “poverty proof.”
Moor managed to do this simply by educating them about personal finance. By helping young minds better understand this important factor in their life, Moor hopes to help them avoid matters like crime, bankruptcy, repossessions and homelessness, consequences that often have their root in poor personal handling of one’s own finances.
Aside from lecturing students at the school, Moor has also helped to create courses in personal economics.
Paula Stephan, a contemporary of Moor’s at Georgia State University, also has a mind centered on personal finance. Her classes on credit card debt alone have seen more than 3,000 students learn how to avoid pitfalls all too common in this day and age. Courses like hers have helped students better conceptualize debt, making it a very real problem that needs to be avoided at all costs.
It’s this kind of heritage that drives Chris Baker to continue his life’s work as an educator and servant of those who want to make their personal finances a priority.
