Police: Sarasota, FL CPA stole $200K from 92-year-old
Unfortunately, not all CPAs are created equally. A Sarasota County CPA has been charged in a theft case where authorities contend he stole nearly $200,000 from a 92-year-old client who was incapacitated and in an assisted living facility. In total, authorities allege the CPA withdrew $195,592 from the woman’s Sabal Palm bank account and another bank account at SunTrust Bank. Many of the transactions and withdrawals were made at casinos in Tampa and Immokalee. The investigation revealed the CPA’s transactions dated back to 2011 and continued through August 2014, when the bank became suspicious of the activity, according to the Sherriff’s office. How this may affect you or someone you love:Be sure to check the background of any financial professional you might consider using for any type of financial assistance. This can be something as simple as asking for 2 or 3 references. At Baker DMM, we are CPAs that you can trust. Just ask us for our references and will be happy to provide them to you.
If Baker DMM had been working with this 92 year old, this crime would have never lasted as long as it did. Our proven financial record keeping system was specifically built for this reason… to be able to review for unusual and/or fraudulent transactions. If you or your loved need a financial professional for assistance, please give us a call today at 678.640.8512.
